How do you get a toddler to sleep in their own bed?

Hello everyone.... great site... thought I would see if anyone had any ideas on how I can get an 20 month old to sleep in their own bed!... she has been out of her cot for a couple of months, but every night sneeks into our bed... I'm pregnant, and bit worried that if I don't stop it now, it will only get worse....

Hi, I'm also pregnant with baby no 2. We got our little boy, who's also 20 months old to sleep in his big bed a couple of months ago. It probably helped that we'd just moved so his routine had been a bit muddled up anyway. What helped for us was having a travel cot in his bedroom as well as the big bed for the first week. Everytime he got out of his big bed we asked him if he wanted to sleep in his big bed or travel cot. If he got out of his big bed for the second time in a row he would have to spend the night in his travel cot. Since then he's been really good at staying in his big bed. The only problem we have now is that sometimes he falls out in the middle of the night and gets a bit upset?

Have you thought about trying one of those safety rails that you can attach to most toddler beds? Or even a just a big duvet at the side of the bed would help! :)
